Films to be presented at the Cannes Film Festival
From ancient times, human beings have passed on a lot of wisdom through annual festivals to succeeding generations. When people feel the gwisdomh that lies beneath the fun and interesting surface of these festivals, you cannot help but feel a deep astonishment and a feeling of gratitude.

After covering various types of warm hearted parental care that exists around the world, I started to feel a passionate mission and need to deliver their messages to the coming generations. I wanted to trigger an opportunity for people to rethink about the ways to raise children, and come back to their point of origin, and I wanted to do this through film.

We would like to take this opportunity to create a film to show that wisdom not only exists in accomplishments by distinct people, or in books or papers, but that there lies a huge power in annual festivals passed on through more modest methods such as word of mouth.

Place: Sapporo City, Hokkaido Target: The chanting prayers of the Ainu people
I went to the Holotropic Network establishment memorial symposium held in Sapporo, and listened to Asir Rerafs lecture gParent and child bear ? Iyomanteh. Asir Rera was born and raised in nibudani of the Hidaka area of Hokkaido which is a sacred area of the Ainu people. Asir Rera heads the Ainu language school. She also takes care of children who have lost their parents, and lives together with them and her own family.

At the symposium, I had a chance to help sell the Ainu embroidery made by her and her friends. Characteristics of these products are that the traditional Ainu embroidery is conducted on normal everyday wear such as T-shirts and Bandanas and that they have a simple taste. I had a chance to speak with Asir Rera, and she agreed to our wish to cover the parents and communities that wish for the healthy growth of their children through ceremonies praying to the gods for a successful harvest and prosperity for future generations,
December 31st, 2004 to January 2nd, 2005
Place: Oga-shi Aikawachiku, Akita Prefecture Target: Namahage (Method most strictly following the past)
Namahage is a winter Japanese tradition that occurs at the end of the year in Akita. It is a great opportunity to strengthen the bond between parent an child, to show the children the dignity of their parents, and to naturally teach the children decision making standards between right and wrong. It takes on a big role in the process of growing a good conscience by developing religious devotion to the gods protecting the land and by having the whole community involved.

Our reporting team spent December 30th near a temple, and on the night of December 31st, visited 20 houses and families. Out of the 20, 7 families had kids, and we were therefore able to grasp a realistic view of the interaction between Namahage and the children. On January 1st and 2nd, Japanese Drums were beat at the Namahage Kan for the people who were coming back from their New Years visit to the shrine. It seems that the Namahage members who visited families on the 31st, were now beating Japanese drums with such force, that it will erase all the earthly desires that exist within us. We were able to welcome the new year with a newly refreshed feeling.
